The inbox
The From name, the subject and the preheader are written as carefully as the letter, because they are read first. The preheader carries the month’s question, so it is asked before the letter is opened. The neighbouring rows show the register it sits against.

Desktop · 600px
The identity is carried in type: a manicule character and stacked serif caps, so the header survives image blocking. The button is a padded table cell with its own background colour, and a VML shape stands in for it in Outlook. Every style that matters sits inline on the element, because the style block does not survive clipping or forwarding in Gmail.
Phone · 375px
Below 480px the media query raises the body type to 19px, narrows the gutters and lets the button run the full column. Clients that drop the style block still get a readable letter, because the shell is fluid up to 600px. Only Outlook holds a fixed 600px frame, through its own conditional wrapper.
